This is a prayer I received via Michael Hyatt’s Blog. I thought it was worth passing on to you. It is a benediction from Franciscan. I hope this is a prayer you can pray for yourself.
Warning: this is completely counter-cultural to the feel-good, prosperity spirituality that is so popular today.
May God bless you with discomfort
At easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships,
So that you may live deep within your heart.
May God bless you with anger
At injustice, oppression and exploitation of people,
So that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.
May God bless you with tears
To shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, hunger, and war,
So that you may reach out your hand to comfort them
And turn their pain into joy.
And may God bless you with enough foolishness
To believe that you can make a difference in the world,
So that you can do what others claim cannot be done
To bring justice and kindness to all our children and the poor.
Whoever thought that someone would intentionally pray for discomfort, anger, tears, and foolishness? I don’t know anyone who prays like this.
Questions: What do you think? Is this a benediction you are willing to receive?
I hope to see you this weekend either at the Harvest Celebration on Saturday from 6-8pm or on Sunday for worship.
Love and Prayers,
