Some Random Thoughts

Dear E-News Friends,

Here are some random thoughts that I am having….

1. I am really PUMPED, JUICED, BLOWN AWAY to hear about what God is doing in and among our youth group as they are at youth camp this week. I have heard from several different sources that God is at work BIG TIME. Praise the Lord. Pray for them as they finish up the week.

2. I am looking for at least 10-12 people to join my MasterLife Small Group in August. MasterLife is 21 week intense Bible Study that will help you to move from being a “babe” in Christ to a Spiritual Parent. We will meet on Wednesday Nights from 6:15pm to 7:30pm. You will have 5 days of homework each week. Each evening of homework will take about 20 minutes of your time. If you miss a session you have to make it up. If you want to go deeper in your spiritual walk this may be just for you.

3. Continue to pray for our search for a worship leader and a worship producer.  We are back to square one in our search. This is a very important ministry position at Eastside.

4. This Sunday we are going to observe COMMUNION. I hope you will be attendance.

5. Interesting in hosting a child from Guatemala? Faces of Culture Exchange (an organization in Guatemala and partner with Madison Board of Education) are needing host families for 9 high school students (5 girls and 4 boys). Here are some of the details:

  • The cultural ambassadors will arrive mid October and be here 8 weeks, leaving in December
  • They will have a school schedule separate from the host child and be introduced to a group of kids that will support  them during their time….
  • The host families only supplied supper and a place to stay, Faces of Culture will provide money to purchase lunch or breakfast from our cafeterias if desired by host families
  • The cultural ambassadors come with their own medical insurance and spending money

6. Don’t forget that Eastside now has online giving available. Visit www.eastside-cc.com and click on the donate now button.

7. Remember that I love each one of you. If you need anything please know that I am always available.

Love and Prayers,

Pastor Virgil

PS Beverly is doing much better. Keep praying for her though.

New Sermon Series: FEARLESS & Communion

Dear E-News Friends,

Battles are inevitable but victory is not. We often find ourselves fighting enemies that are stronger than we are. So how do you stand FEARLESS when there’s so much at stake? Be inspired by accounts from God’s Word about average people who became champions and overcame insurmountable odds. Do you have what it takes? Experience “FEARLESS” to find out once and for all.

It all begins this Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 10:50 am.

Sermon Titles are:

July 3rd: Gideon
July 10th: Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego
July 17th: Benaiah
July 24th: Jonathan
July 31st:  David & Goliath

This Sunday as we celebrate our freedom as a country, we are also going to celebrate our FREEDOM IN CHRIST as we celebrate COMMUNION at 10:50 am.

Love and Prayers,

PS Our youth group made it safely to youth camp. Please lift these 26 men and women up in your prayers this week.

Prayers Are Needed

Dear Friends,

The other day I read a post from Bob Burford (click here to read the post) which he describes how he organizes his days around 6 words: FREE Days, FOCUS Days, and BUFFER Days. Here is how Bob describes each day from his blog….

” A Focus Day is primetime for work. For an NFL Quarterback, it is time to suit up and get your game face on – time to concentrate. Buffer Days are for practice, preparation, fulfilling promises and cleaning up all those loose ends (dental appointments and email responses). A Free Day is a 24-hour period dedicated to rest, recharging and recreation.”

For the next two weeks (March 21st-March 31st) I am going to be in FOCUS DAY MODE! I am going to seek to accomplish the following agenda items:

  • Finish up the sermon series “Intimacy with God”
  • Prepare this year’s Easter Message – “Beyond the Grave”
  • Make preparations for May’s new sermon series “Finding Your PLACE”. This will be Eastside’s Spring Church-Wide Spiritual Growth Campaign which will be during the month of May.

I would appreciate your prayers during this time of FOCUS! I hope you have a great week.

Go Cats,

Pastor Virgil

Start Inviting People, NOW!

Dear Friends,

The Lord has being dealing with me lately about LOST PEOPLE! People who do not know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. I have been asking myself the following questions:

  • Who am I cultivating a relationship with that is lost and does not know Jesus as their Savior?
  • Who am I inviting to small group, church, family events, or other activities that does not know Jesus as their Savior?
  • How many lost people am I currently praying for daily?

Your turn….How are you doing in this arena? Take a moment and evaluate yourself in this arena.

Easter Sunday is 41 days away. Let’s all agree to do whatever it takes to invite someone to attend with us on Easter Sunday. Make sure the person or the family we invite are lost or unchurched. What do you think? Go ahead, pause for a moment, pray to God and ask Him to impress on your heart the person/family that you need to invest and invite to Easter 2011.

We will have 2 worship gatherings on Sunday, April 24th: 9:00 am and 10:50 am. We will have children activities birth thru 5th grade available at both worship gatherings.

Who is Jesus impressing on your heart to invite? Ask the Lord to open the door up for you so you can have a dialogue with that person/family. He will do it.

BTW, the sermon for this year is “Beyond the Grave.”

Let’s change eternity this Easter!

Love and Prayers,

Pastor VG

PS Baptism is this Sunday, March 20th. If you wish to get baptized then please email me at vgrant@eastside-cc.com

This is a test message. My tech guy imported a list of names and email addresses into my blog and created a new distribution list for Prince of Peace. I received this list from Chris Hager.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am Virgil Grant. I currently serve on the general assembly for POP.

Let me know if we need to add people to this list.

Thank you for your continue support of Prince of Peace.

Prayer Concerns (Please Read)

Dear Friends:

I want to thank you for all the prayers you have offered up on my behalf over the last month as I was traveling almost every other day around the country. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I would like to encourage you to continue to pray for me and our community of faith as we are experiencing a lot of sickness and death. In fact, I have 2 funerals schedule for the end of this week. Please continue to lift one another up in prayer.

Please continue to pray for the following people:

  • Brooke Taulbee and family in the loss of her father, Ray Carpenter.
  • Todd Avery and family in the loss of his dad and his step-father (all in a week’s timeframe)
  • Cecil, Daphne, & Destiny Wright and family in the loss of their son, Jarred. Here are the details: Jarred Davis Wright died on Sunday, Aug. 29 just seven hours into his life.  Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home, Richmond. I know you will want to join me in expressing our sympathies and showing our kindness to the Wright family in this time of sorrow.

  • Chuck Curry and family in the loss of his ex-wife, Amy Murphy Curry.

Also, please pray for Jane & Nelson Young, Helen Wells, Prince of Peace Girls Orphanage in Guatemala, the launch of Life’s Healing Choices which is September 12, 2010.

I love being your pastor.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend,

Pastor Virgil

Have You Told God That?

Dear Prayer Partners,

Jesus clearly believed that prayer was very important. Jesus prayed about a lot of different situations which He faced. For example: (from John Ortberg’s book The Me I Want to Be)

  • Jesus prayed when His life was crowded and draining (Luke 5:15-16)
  • Jesus prayed when He faced important choices (Luke 6:12)
  • Jesus prayed when He was sad or burdened (Matt 14:13)
  • Jesus prayed when He needed strength for His work (Mark 1:35, 38)
  • Jesus prayed when He was concerned about people He loved (Luke 22:31)
  • Jesus prayed when He faced an insurmountable problem (Luke 22:39 – 24)

If Jesus prayed often and in almost any imaginable situation then we should offer our need, hurt, habit, or hang-up to God.

Whatever you are struggling with let me ask you a question, “Have you told God?” If not, then stop right now and tell Him what’s going on in your life.

Prayer & Need Requests:
