What is Disciple-Making Leadership? Disciple-Making Leadership is helping the local church to have clarity on what is the core function of the church, making disciples (Matt 28:18-20).
Disciple-Making Leadership is based on the method of Jesus Christ. Jesus discipled twelve ordinary men (A.K.A. his disciples or the apostles) and changed the world, how? He led his disciples to be disciples who made disciples. They reproduced what Jesus had model for them. In addition, Jesus prepared The Twelve to serve as leaders in the early church (see book of Acts).
Disciple-Making Leadership also reflects my two primary passions – leadership and making disciples. I realize that there is a difference between discipleship and leadership. Every Christian is called to make disciples but not every Christian is a developer of leaders.
Mark 3:14 (NIV) summarized the Disciple-Making Leadership of Jesus, “He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach.” Based on Mark 3:14 we see that Jesus BROUGHT The Twelve on the team; DISCIPLED them; then He SENT them out to emulate what He modeled for them. That is Disciple-Making Leadership at its best.
